1 Nichols, Beverley A Thatched Roof
Jonathan Cape 1933 1st UK Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket WHIstler, Rex
This book has a deep green cover with a Morrisesque cottage & path embossed in gilt finelining, I am unsure if this was ever issued with a dj. 285 very clean sewn-in pp well bound. Beverley Nichols fans, armchair gardeners, and literature enthusiasts will delight in this, the second book in his Allways trilogy, with Rex Whistler's graceful illustrations. Nichols's humorous ruminations on life in the countryside, as always, are refreshing. The typical Nichols gardening anecdotes and familiar characters are there, as well as the author's beloved dog, Whoops, an inveterate spy with a habit of leaping to conclusions.

2 Nichols Beverley A VILLAGE IN A VALLEY
Timber Press, Oregon 2005 0881927295 / 9780881927290 Hard Cover As New As New Rex Whistler
"The third book in the Allways trilogy, a Village in a Valley is a delightful exploration of the village of Glatton - for which Allways is a pseudonym - and the people who lived and gardened there. Set in the English countryside, this hilarious memoir is as much about the author's love for plants, as it is about the village in which he lived." This new edition includes a forward by Bryan Connon, Beverley Nichols's biographer, who discloses valuable insight into the historical basis surrounding the book, as well as the stir it caused in Glatton.

6 Nichols, Beverley The Tree That Sat Down
UK Jonathan Cape 1946 2nd Impression Hardcover Very Good Good/Fair Isobel and John Morton Sale
302 tightly bound pp, Part of a trilogy, The Tree That Sat Down tells the story of young Judy and Mrs Judy, who live in an enormous willow tree in an enchanted forest where all the animals talk and the trees and elements themselves have magic powers. This idyllic lifestyle changes when the evil Sam and the unusually beautiful Miss Smith (a witch in disguise) move into the forest. When Judy discovers that the two newcomers are not only cheating the animals, but also hurting them, it seems she must take steps. But what is to be done? Basically a novel-length fairytale, this woodland trilogy will appeal to many. 1cm absent from dj spine base, spine darker than cover, page 1 of the book has lineart of a rabbit & a small person has tried tracing this with pen (dip in nib type I'd guess), corners lightly bumped. All other pages clean & well bound in.

Whilst you can fill a great many Wiki pages with cooks' info we will restrict ourselves to bite-sized info pieces for some well known cooks/chefs, both international & Australian.  Each page will have a brief bio, some personal points and a sample recipe. All the pages will be "G" rated, yes, even Gordon Ramsay's page!

COOKS TOUR

  Our personal recommendation -
We deal with lots of foodie titles and without a doubt there are those that deserve a special mention, such as this one -
Box of Beans  This is Clarissa Dickson Wright's warts and all autobiography. Most of us would agree that Jennifer & Clarissa brought personality plus to the screen with their uniquely pucker food style. A glass of red & feet up with the cat on your lap would be the right way to enjoy this fly-on-the-wall view of Clarissa's triumphs & failings. It's a book and two audio CDs at just $27. Drop us an email if you'd like it.
