1 Simon, Howard Cabin on a Ridge
USA Follett 1970 Hardcover Very Good Very Good
A 1930s Depresson-era memoir of this painter and book illlustrator author who, due to the times, was unable to make a living in New York and uprooted himself for the next five years to the Ozark Mountains. "In the Ozark Mountains, Howard Simon climbed a mountain and found the boundary of his homestead. The hospitable mountain people helped him build his log cabin, and he settled down to live among them. He shared their simple life, and friends and neighbors became his models in a series of paintings and wood engravings of the people and the surroundings. Usually he made two drawings of a subject; one was for the model. In time there was hardly a mountain cabin for miles around that did not have one or more of the drawings. This is a loving account of the artist's five years of life in the mountains, where he found what he had set out to find: an environment of green, silent beauty, and a chance to draw-and live among-the mountain people. 159pp

Whilst you can fill a great many Wiki pages with cooks' info we will restrict ourselves to bite-sized info pieces for some well known cooks/chefs, both international & Australian.  Each page will have a brief bio, some personal points and a sample recipe. All the pages will be "G" rated, yes, even Gordon Ramsay's page!

COOKS TOUR

  Our personal recommendation -
We deal with lots of foodie titles and without a doubt there are those that deserve a special mention, such as this one -
Box of Beans  This is Clarissa Dickson Wright's warts and all autobiography. Most of us would agree that Jennifer & Clarissa brought personality plus to the screen with their uniquely pucker food style. A glass of red & feet up with the cat on your lap would be the right way to enjoy this fly-on-the-wall view of Clarissa's triumphs & failings. It's a book and two audio CDs at just $27. Drop us an email if you'd like it.
